Toshikoshi Soba

One of my favorite foods are Japanese foods, and Toshikoshi Soba (Passing the Year Noodle) maybe on my top 10 list. Not only is it a bowl of hot noodle soup, it has symbolic meaning to enjoy this dish at the last day of the year. This year I garnished soba (buckwheat noodles) simply with negi (green onion/chives), yuzu (citrus peel), and naruto-maki (fish cakes). It was delicious!! This custom for Japanese people to eat soba dates from Edo period, and soba symbolizes good fortune, and long and prosperous life.

I love your food pictures and what great background information. Thank you for getting me interested in blogging and thanks so much for the New Year gifts. The book on blogging is great. I've already started reading it. Jules loves the daily airplane calendar and we both love the heavenly chocolate. Kirs, Rob, Rowan and Dilly are coming tomorrow. We have been childproofing to beat that band. Star is coming down also. We are excited. Love you guys and Happy New Year
