waffles, soysages, cheesy eggs, asparagus, potato

My dear friends Marjorie and her husband John Henry traveled from Chicago to visit our apartment on this spring day. Of course, I had to do my brunch (for the 'weekend breakfast' label of this blog). I cooked most of the food ahead of time, and finished the rest (asparagus, soysages, and smoothie) while visiting and chatting. It was a challenge to cook ahead and to keep food warm and still have a fresh, right-off-the-stove texture. I appreciate the skills caterers face in this manner. My husband made the delicious cheesy eggs. Thank goodness our neighbor and friend Carole arrived just in time, and allowed me to stay focused on kitchen duties. Toward the end of brunch, our next door neighbor James (sans Nancy, who was getting her hair done all pretty) joined us with a bottle of rum. We added some of it to what was left of the mango-pineapple smoothie.
